Instructions for listening to my grandmother’s voice

i
Your body is what contains and gives shape to her voice.
Even though, you’ll notice that there’s something in it that eludes you.
The more attention you pay, the larger the distance between you will be.
You’ll never be able to understand her completely.
Something will be always missing.
ii
Everything you remember while listening will be generated on real time.
Memories are unstable: they mutate, devour each other, create their own ghosts.
This is the only way they can fill in the gaps and give us de illusion of continuity.
Memory is a permanent rewriting exercise.
iii
This recording contains frequencies outside the audible spectrum, which is located between the 20Hz and 20KHz.
Beyond it, there’s something that, even if you can’t perceive it, it’s also part of Oli’s voice.
iv
Longing is one of the human conditions of time.
v
Perhaps you’ll think about this when you hear her laughter.
vi
A time discrepancy will be produced while you listen to her voice: you’ll be wherever you are now but you’ll also be ten years ago in her living room; you’ll be in her childhood and, if you pay attention to this sort of things, you’ll be also in yours. You’ll listen the time of the seven year old girl in Costa Rica and the one of the woman of ninety one in Mexico.
You’ll listen other moments too, but maybe you won’t want to talk about them.
vii
Even if it doesn’t seems this to you, remember that she is no longer here.
